Liverpool’s Penny Lane, made well-known by The Beatles, is “in peril of being renamed” if hyperlinks to slavery are discovered, town’s regional mayor has instructed Sky Information.

Liverpool’s Worldwide Slavery Museum has mentioned proof linking Penny Lane to James Penny is “not conclusive”.

The museum is “actively finishing up analysis on this specific query”, a spokeswoman added.
