A dying elderly couple in Wisconsin was able to hold hands and exchange an “I love you” before passing away from COVID-19 mere hours apart, the couple’s family says.
Wilford Kepler, 94, and wife, Mary, 92, were married for 73 years and spent their final hours in adjoining beds at a hospital in Wauwatosa, Wis., according to their obituary.
“They were able to say: ‘I love you,’” granddaughter Natalie Lameka told ABC radio affiliate WTMJ in Milwaukee.
“They had been holding hands and that was just heartbreaking to hear, but also heartwarming to hear. And we were just so thankful they were together and were aware they were together,” she added.
